This week sees Spirit of 2012 coming together with a number of Legacy 2014 Partners to mark the third anniversary of the Start of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. 

Active Legacy Share & Learn is a collaborative learning event bringing together Legacy 2014 partners Scottish Sports Futures, Active East, the Scottish Government, The Robertson Trust, Glasgow Sport, Drumchapel Sports and Spirit of 2012.

Applications are now being sought for Sporting Equality Fund for projects that target women and girls who are currently not participating in physical activity, and want to become more active.

Spirit of 2012 is delighted to be working with the Scottish Government to offer funding that will increase the number of women and girls in Scotland who participate in sport and physical activity. The Fund will support no fewer than 12 projects targeting women and girls who want to become more active through sport.

Spirit of 2012 has begun a tendering process to work with an organisation or individual that can support our funding recipients to build their capacity for monitoring and evaluation.

Our Founding Chair’s tenure comes to an end in October 2017, and we are now looking to appoint an outstanding individual to lead our accomplished and energetic Board of Trustees in shaping the agenda of Spirit of 2012 as we move into the next exciting chapter of our life-cycle.

Two projects funded by Spirit of 2012 have been announced as finalists in this year's National Lottery Awards. DanceSyndrome and Manchester Village Spartans are both in with the chance of winning a £5,000 prize and nationwide acclaim on the BBC One National Lottery Awards show. Hi Helen, tell us about what your work at Spirit of 2012 entails.

Paralympian Susie Rodgers is a Director of Spirit of 2012. She is also the Chair of our Spirit of Achievement Panel and was recently recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list, receiving an MBE for services to her sport. The award rounded off a very successful year for Susie, who won three medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, including gold in the women’s 50 metres butterfly.

Spirit of 2012 is a proud supporter of DanceSyndrome. Formed by dancer Jen Blackwell, who has Down's Syndrome, they provide creative and fun learning opportunities for anyone who wants to improve their physical health and personal wellbeing. Spirit have recently awarded funding to enable their continued provision of inclusive dance workshops and leadership training.
